TANN LIST

Teatown Area
Neighborhood Network

Since 2007

Welcome, neighbor

TANN is a neighbor-led email list for residents of the Teatown area to share information and connect with neighbors. It’s a space for exchanging updates on local happenings, recommendations for services, and observations about our natural surroundings, along with other topics that help us stay connected and informed.

Geographic boundaries

TANN membership is limited to residents of Westchester County, New York who currently live within the area south of the New Croton Reservoir, west of Pinesbridge Road, north of the upper stretch of Route 9A, and east of the Croton River.Although these boundaries aren’t rigid, keeping TANN geographically focused helps preserve a strong sense of community, ensuring that neighbors know and recognize each other, and that discussions remain relevant to those who call this unique part of the woods home.

Core principal No. 1
Neighborly spirit

We look out for one another. Whether it’s a heads-up about road closures, a lost pet alert, or a plumber referral, what we share makes daily life a little easier for everyone.

Core principal No. 2
Respect & inclusion

We treat every neighbor with kindness and consideration. TANN welcomes diverse perspectives and encourages constructive conversations, even when we disagree.

Core principal No. 3
Trust & privacy

TANN is built on trust. We create a space where neighbors feel comfortable sharing, knowing their privacy is respected, fostering open sharing and real connections.

What to post

TANN is here to help neighbors connect and share useful information. If you have a question about local services, or a notice about a neighborhood issue, a lost pet or a wildlife sighting, this is a great place for it.

  • Neighborhood news updates

  • Local services recommendations

  • Power outages & road conditions

  • Ecological management practices

  • Wildlife sightings

  • Lost and found pets

  • Curb alerts

  • Voting reminders

  • Local events

… and avoid

  • Commercial promotions. If you run a business, we’re glad you’re part of the community, but this isn’t a space for advertising services.

  • Political endorsements. While local issues are fair game, please avoid outright campaigning or endorsements for candidates.

  • Anything inflammatory or disrespectful. Disagreements are natural, but personal attacks or mean-spirited debates aren’t welcome here.

  • Misinformation. We rely on each other for trustworthy information, so please take a moment to verify details before posting.

Moderation & feedback

TANN is moderated by a group of volunteers known as the TANN Committee. As moderators, we act as facilitators of conversation, ensuring that this space remains welcoming, informative, and aligned with the original vision of TANN’s founder, Linda Conte.Linda created TANN in 2007, and managed the group for 17 years. In 2024, she formed the TANN Committee to assist with the ongoing administration of the TANN List.

What you can expect from us

  • We are neutral facilitators of the TANN List and do not bring political or commercial agendas into our work as moderators.

  • We focus on the technical and organizational aspects of maintaining the TANN List rather than directing its discussions.

  • TANN is not affiliated with Teatown Lake Reservation, though we share a deep appreciation for this area and its unique character.

How moderation works

  • Self-moderation: We encourage members to self-regulate discussions and maintain respectful conversations.

  • Committee oversight: Moderators cannot retroactively recall emails sent to the group, but may ask members to stop posting content that violates community guidelines.

  • Escalation: Repeated violations may result in temporary or permanent removal from the group.
